Tell me a little bit about yourself?

Nathan: I am a Modern Apprentice for Lullaby Lane Nursery at Milngavie. I started my journey with Helen Ward, Early Years Trainer, on the Employability Fund programme. It was the best experience of my life, she shaped my opinion and guided me on what I wanted to do. This led to me pursuing a career in Early Years and how children’s minds work.

What was the transition like from TIGERS Employability Fund programme to undertaking an Apprenticeship at Lullaby Lane Nursery?

Nathan: It was hard at first, developing a work routine and communicating with our children. I wasn’t sure on how to handle situations within a nursery, but Lullaby Lane and TIGERS guided me and supported me.

What does your typical day look like as a Lullaby Lane Apprentice?

Nathan: I could not summarise a day. In the environment with our children each day is exciting and different. The early years sector is unique, our children teach you something new every single day inside and outside the nursery. Spending time with our children can change your mind and views on a lot of things.

What have you learned as an Apprentice?

Nathan: I have learnt to keep an open mind, have confidence and not to be embarrassed engaging with the children in front of other staff members and parents. It’s part of the job, teaching our children to be unique, to be themselves and to inspire others.

Sharlene Davis, Nursery Manager at Lullaby Lane Milngavie, provided insight into Nathan’s journey so far…

Sharlene: Nathan is enthusiastic in his role and has demonstrated an eagerness to learn, with a real interest in children's development. Nathan works well within the team and works to a very high standard; Nathan can express himself and asks questions to further develop his knowledge of early years showing great initiative and enthusiasm.

Nathan has a happy, bubbly personality and has made great connections and attachments with our children and families. It has been a pleasure to watch Nathan grow in the short time he has been at Lullaby Lane and I am excited for his future in early years, I am very proud of the commitment and enthusiasm he has brought to the role so far.
