Staff development is key to any Business and TIGERS pride themselves in delivering a range of training at affordable prices that can enhance the current ability of your members of staff.

The below funding initiatives are also in place for businesses to help with the Professional development of staff.

FTO (Flexible Training Opportunities)

A Scottish Government scheme that offers up to 50% contribution towards training costs (excl training required by legislation or statute i.e H&S or in house delivery)

  • Employers with max 150 employees.
  • Employer can apply for funding up to 10 claims per annum.
  • Up to a maximum of £500.00 per claim i.e training costs £1200.00- refund £500.00.

Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs)

ILA's are for people who are 16 or over and living in Scotland. You can apply for an ILA if you are not in education, do not have a degree or above and are not taking part in a National Training Programme (Modern Apprenticeship, Get Ready for Work or Training for Work). You must also have an income of £22,000 a year or less, or be on benefits to be eligible to get up to £200 towards the costs of learning or training with an Individual Learning Account from Skills Development Scotland.

Modern Apprenticeships


    What is a Modern Apprenticeship?

  • Work based training towards an industry approved qualification for Young Persons aged 16-24 years.
  • Designed to help create highly experienced workforce.
  • Ability to undertake a qualification whilst earning a wage.
  • No training cost to employer as Modern Apprenticeship is covered by Skills Development Scotland.
  • How will it work having a Modern Apprentice?

  • Candidates must be employed status and working within the industry specific to the qualification.
  • Candidates will undertake a selection of mandatory and optional units in relation to their job role / business requirements.
  • TIGERS Assessors will visit the candidate’s place of work every 2-4 weeks to carry out assessments.
  • Candidates will collate work based evidence to support their portfolio and meet the performance criteria set within the qualification.
  • Candidates will return to TIGERS to undertake additional training to support their underpinning knowledge development.

What Modern Apprenticeships Do TIGERS Offer?

  • SOCIAL SERVICES CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE LEVEL 3

    This SVQ is suitable for individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification, the SVQ in Social Services (Children and Young People) is for people who are practitioners in early years settings. It is a requirement by the SSSC that everyone employed in this capacity should be working towards achievement of this qualification.
    To achieve the SVQ level 3, candidates are required to complete eight Units. Four core/mandatory Units plus four optional Units.Candidates will be expected to demonstrate competence in the required mandatory and selected optional Units. They must also be able to perform to the required standard over a period of approximately 24 months.
  • GENERAL CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS LEVEL 3
    Occupational Work Supervision

    The competence-based qualification is aimed at experienced workers in technical, supervisory and management roles (Construction Technical, Supervision and Management and related roles), seeking to develop their competence and improve their skills and knowledge.
  • GENERAL CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS LEVEL 2

    The General Construction Operations Level 2 Modern Apprenticeship consists of 6 units and lasts approximately 18 months. The qualification includes some of the tasks below:
    - Perform basic risk assessments
    - Manually handle tools, materials and equipment
    - Identify hazards associated with the workplace
    - Place and finish non-specialist concrete
    - Establish work area protection and safety
    - Operate specialised power tools and equipment.
  • BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION LEVEL 4

    This qualification is a competence based qualification. It is aimed at people who already have experience of office-based skills and wish to specialise in business and administration functions; ideally in a supervisory role. Learners can choose from a bank of optional units which show their ability to manage projects, problem-solve, negotiate, recruit and supervise, manage and run an office. The level 4 qualification consists of 3 mandatory and 5 optional.
  • BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATION LEVEL 3

    This qualification is aimed at people who already have experience of office-based skills and wish to specialise in business and administration functions. Learners can choose from a bank of optional units which show their ability to negotiate, supervise, manage and contribute to the running of an office. The Level 3 qualification consists of 3 mandatory and 5 optional units.
  • BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATION LEVEL 2

    This is a Level 2 qualification that is delivered in the work place and will help you assess your Business Administration practices. It is aimed at individuals whose Business Administration role requires well developed behavioural competence and the ability to work at assistant level.
    The SVQ Level 2 is made up of 3 mandatory units and 5 optional units. Level 3 also consists of 3 mandatory and 5 optional units.

Who is Involved in the delivery of the Modern Apprenticeship?


  • The role of the Training Provider:
  • Register the Modern Apprentice with SDS and the relevant Sector Skills Council
  • Deliver underpinning knowledge
  • Assess the individual within their place of work
  • The role of the Employer:
  • Work in partnership with training provider to devise individual training plan
  • Employ the Modern Apprentice
  • Mentor and support candidate to attain qualification
  • The role of the Modern Apprentice:
  • Commit to increasing knowledge and understanding
  • Take ownership of personal learning and development
  • Demonstrate motivation to enhance career opportunities

Outcome:

Employer receives a fully trained employee contributing to the success of the company.

Employer Incentives


There are a wide range of funding incentives in place at the moment with regards to employing young people within your Business, these are governed by local authorities as detailed below.

SDS - Scotlands Employer Recruitment Incentive (SERI)

    Incentive

  • You can get up to £4,000 when your company commits to a new job or new Modern Apprentice (MA).
  • The funding is a contribution towards the additional costs of recruiting a young person during their first 52 weeks of sustainable employment.
  • Glasgow Guarantee

  • Help with the wage costs of recruiting a young person (16-19 category above) together with financial assistance towards the training element
  • Help to recruit workless adults (20+ category above)
  • Help to advertise and recruit a suitable candidate to meet your business needs from a wide pool of candidates registered with Glasgow Guarantee
  • Scottish Government - Flexible Training Opportunities

    Incentive

  • 50% Contribution towards training costs - up to a maximum of £500 per claim

Employability Fund


    What is involved in the Employability Fund?

  • TIGERS deliver pre-employment programmes through contracts with Skills Development Scotland, Local Authorities and Jobcentre Plus.
  • Delivery of Modern Apprenticeships and SVQ qualifications.
  • Our pre employment and Modern Apprenticeship programmes allow us to shape and prepare young persons from “cradle to grave”.
  • We have developed our trainees, programmes and funding access to deliver tangible financial benefits to employers – large, small and one man businesses.
  • Deliver training / qualifications to your existing workforce which are financially supported through local incentives.
  • Programme delivery

    • Accept referrals for 16-24 years within the West region.
    • Deliver preparatory training in a variety of sectors which includes industry specific qualifications.
    • Offer work placement trial to determine suitability for young person and employer.
    • Continue to up skill young person’s whilst undertaking work placement trial through the delivery of training days.
    • Deliver Modern Apprenticeship qualification to support sustainability of employment.
    • Benefits to employers

    • No recruitment costs - ability to assess young person’s suitability by use of workplacement at no direct financial cost to your business.
    • Our programmes can save businesses up to £6000 per annum through work placements, training funding and wage subsidies.
    • No training costs – employability training through to Modern Apprenticeship delivery.
